Although fear is not such a pleasant feeling, it is here to serve you. However we need to learn how to understand it. Nowadays fear often appears in us when we are on the verge of an important decision or when we are about to start a new beginning. Fear floats around as excuses that prevent us from achieving our dreams. First we will review why the feeling floats into your life and then we will understand how it can be optimized in order to help you grow.
Fear is a defense mechanism that exists in humans and also in animals.
We are afraid of things that we fear will harm us. It is important for me to emphasize that in this post I am not talking about fear that comes from real danger that is facing you (a tiger standing in front of you in the forest, a person pointing a gun at you, a fire breaking out in a building) rather, I am talking about fears of the future, fear of doing such and such (stage fright, fear of failure, etc..).
The fear mechanism is necessary for our lives, it helps us to be aware of dangers and try to avoid dangerous situations. However it is important to remember that we do not live in ancient times and today with our development there are fewer visible dangers that can endanger lives. The fears that surround us today are hidden fears, of what can happen (and probably won’t happen), of the unknown future and especially of thoughts that prevent our success. Therefore trying to avoid these situations in such a case hinders us instead of serving us.
Fear can be used as a tool for growth.
Fear actually indicates to us in which area of our lives we have a limiting belief. After all, none of us was born full of fears, each one accumulates his fears according to what he has lived through along his life journey. Our fears are actually created by limiting beliefs we have. With the attention that fear has created we can easily identify and pinpoint where inner work is needed.
How to identify the limiting belief that creates the feeling of fear.
Ask yourself the following questions:
– Why am I afraid of this?
– What can happen to me if I do the thing I’m afraid of?
– What do I believe that supports such a reality?
– How does this fear serve me?
– What happened to me in the past that could indicate the formation of this fear?
The answers may not come to you right away, but if you ask yourself these questions honestly and with a real desire to know, the answers will eventally come to you. Allow yourself to discover the answers at the right pace for you, your broad consciousness will help you get there.

Dealing with fear
Whether you have found the source of the limiting belief or you simply want to face your fears, the best way to do this is to simply do the thing you are afraid of (even if you take small steps). The longer you wait and don’t face your fears, the more power they will gain over you and your mind will have less courage to face them. Once you defeat the fear, even the smallest one you have, you will gain strength over all the fears you hold, because you will prove to yourself that you are able to face your fears.
Fear is an illusion of your mind, often the thing that you are afraid of exists only in your head. Fear holds you back and prevents you from doing the things that really matter to you. You are so powerful, you have the ability to face any fear that will arise in your life. Just believe in yourself and stand up to the fear without thinking twice. True, it feels like fear alerts us to a risk and lets us know there is something we cannot deal with, but each of us has the ability to deal with everything. These fears are just thoughts that you have become accustomed to thinking, if you just try to face these fears you will see that the devil is not so terrible.
A good method for this is Mel Robbins’ 5 second rule
In fact, Mel Robbins wrote an entire book about this law that explains its principle and explains how to motivate yourself to overcome fears, gather self-confidence, put an end to procrastination, and more. Briefly, I will explain to you its principle. Basically, all you need is to count down from five to one and after you reach one in the countdown simply perform the action without thinking about it again. This principle is good because you actually start the action straight away with the countdown and you don’t allow your brain to give you the multitude of excuses why not to do this thing.
Don’t let your fears keep you from living the life of your dreams.
Work through your fears and you will have an extraordinary life. Usually the things we fear are the things we most want to do or we really want to happen and the fear comes in order to prevent our failures. But if you don’t try in the first place, you have already failed. You are on this journey of life in order to develop, pursue your dreams and realize your potential, when you allow fear to prevent you from doing the things that you want, you are not doing what you came here for.
The mind will pull you in the direction of “rational panic”, lack, and limitations because it is physically focused on one moment in time out of infinity, so it cannot recognize in that moment all the opportunities that await in the future. However if you just try to face those fears, to confront them, you will gain powerful strength against them and reduce the power they have over your life. Each time you overcome, you will start to believe in yourself more and realize that your dreams are waiting for you beyond your fears. Once you face the fear and achieve your dreams, you will discover that the fear was only an illusion that prevented your progress.
